L’Académie internationale d’histoire des sciences (AIHS) a été fondée en 1928 afin d‘organiser le premier Congrès international d’histoire des sciences en 1929 à Paris. À ce Congrès, ses statuts ont été adoptés la définissant comme une assemblée académique réunissant les spécialistes les plus éminents de cette discipline, ayant comme but d’organiser et promouvoir l’histoire des sciences sur un plan international. En conséquence, l’Académie a organisé tous les Congrès internationaux jusqu’au cinquième qui a eu lieu en 1947 à Lausanne, où, dans le contexte de l’après guerre, l’Union internationale d’histoire des sciences a été fondée comme une association de comités nationaux qui s’est chargée de poursuivre l’organisation des congrès internationaux.

Afin de faire revivre la tradition de mettre en contact les spécialistes dans un esprit convivial, l’Académie lance une nouvelle série de conférences internationales qui auront lieu tous les quatre ans, dont la première se tiendra en septembre 2019 à Athènes. Nous appelons tous les historiens des sciences et en particulier les jeunes historiens à participer à cet événement en présentant une communication et/ou en organisant un symposium.

“Science in Different Cultures and Civilizations”

The International Academy of the History of Science (IAHS) was founded in 1928 with the aim to prepare the first International Congress of History of Science in 1929 in Paris. At this Congress, its statutes were adopted defining it as an academic society gathering the most prominent specialists of the field and aiming at organizing and promoting history of science worldwide. Subsequently, the Academy has organized all international congresses of history of science until the fifth, held in 1947 in Lausanne, where, in a post-war context, the International Union of the History of Science was founded as an association of national committees which took over the task to organize the international congresses.

In order to revive the tradition of connecting specialists in a spirit of conviviality, the Academy launches a new series of international conferences to be held every four years, beginning from September 2019. We call all our members, as well as every historian of science, and particularly young scholars, to participate in this conference by presenting a paper and/or organizing a symposium.
